Equity diversified NAVs ended higher with advance:decline ratio of 189:41. The benchmark indices closed flat, after trading extremely volatile throughout the session on Thursday, ahead of the railway budget on July 3. The sell-off in European markets also put pressure on the benchmark indices. Metal, power stocks along with ONGC were the gainers while capital goods, banking, auto and telecom stocks along with Reliance Industries witnessed selling pressure.
The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 14,658.49, up 0.09% or 13.02 points and the 50-share NSE Nifty ended at 4348.85, up 0.18% or 7.95 points.
On the sectoral front, FMCG and pharma funds advanced while banking and technology funds declined.
