NAVs close lower as mkts decline

Equity diversified NAVs closed with negative bias and their advance:decline ratio stood at 53:199, as the markets ended lower on the back of profit booking in heavyweights. The sell-off in banking, oil & gas exploration, realty, auto and select pharma stocks kept the benchmark indices on the lower side. However, buying in technology, telecom, FMCG, power, oil marketing and select metal companies' shares capped the losses to some extent.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 17,101.54, down 84.14 points or 0.49%. The 50-share NSE Nifty ended at 5,108.90, down 0.44% or 22.80 points.

On the sectoral front, banking funds declined while FMCG, pharma and technology funds advanced. The BSE Bankex was down by 1.18% while Healthcare, FMCG and IT indices gained 1.24%, 0.36% and 0.34%, respectively.

Long term debt funds ended lower while short term debt funds closed with positive returns; their advance:decline ratio stood at 14:63 and 63:30, respectively.
