MF NAVs close with negative returns

Equity diversified NAVs closed lower with negative advance:decline ratio of 88:116 as the markets closed in red amid volatile trades. The BSE oil & gas index outperformed the other sectoral indices. The BSE midcap and small cap indices were also witnessing good buying interest. The Sensex was down 95.41 points at 15,695.10 and Nifty down 14.05 points at 4733.

All sectoral funds declined. Balanced funds ended with negative returns while tax saving funds with positive returns; advance:decline ratio of 12:22 and 21:15, respectively.

Long term debt funds also finished with lower returns while short term debt funds with positive returns, adv:dec of 20:55 and 57:25, respectively.

Among the equity diversified funds, the top gainer were Lotus India AGILE Fund (G) up 1.57%,  Canara Robeco Emerging Equities (G) up 1.19% and Franklin India Prima Fund (G) up 0.86%.   The top losers were Taurus Star Share down 1.08%, HDFC Core & Satellite Fund (G) down 1.06% and HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities Fund (G) down 1.01%.

Among the tax saving funds, the top gainer were Lotus India AGILE Tax Fund (G) up 1.49% and DWS Tax Saving Fund (G) up  0.73% and ABN AMRO Tax Advantage Plan (ELSS) (G) up 0.58%. The top losers were Lotus India Tax Plan (G) down 0.82%, HDFC Tax Saver (G) down 0.81% and HDFC Long Term Advantage Fund (G) down 0.71%

Among the sector funds, the top gainer were Reliance Pharma Fund (G) up 0.84%, UTI Energy Fund (G) up 0.57% and Reliance Diversified Power Sector Fund - Retail Plan (G) up 0.52%. The top losers were UTI Banking Sector Fund (G) down 2.15%, SBI Magnum Pharma Fund (G) down 1.23% and Reliance Banking Fund (G) down 1.02%.

Among the balanced funds, the top gainers were Reliance Regular Savings Fund - Balanced Option up 0.60%,  Canara Robeco Balance (G) up 0.54% and BOB Balance Fund (G) up 0.35%.  The top losers were ING Balanced Portfolio (G) down 0.80%,  HDFC Prudence Fund (G) down 0.64% and FT India Balanced Fund (G) down 0.62%.
