Commenting on the markets’ outlook between now and the elections, Ved Prakash Chaturvedi, Managing Director of Tata Mutual Fund, said the markets would reflect the news flow regarding what coalition could come into power. “If the feeling develops — as it has in the last fortnight — that there would be a more diverse coalition, which will decide policy in the next few years, there would be some concern in the markets,” he said. “However, there is also this feeling that there is so much of choppiness in anticipation of elections that after whatever government comes to power, there will be a relief rally immediately after, reflecting the fact that there is some government in power and we can look forward to a period of some policy making.”

Here is a verbatim transcript of the exclusive interview with Ved Prakash Chaturvedi on CNBC-TV18. Also watch the accompanying video.

Q: How do you see the market between now and elections, we have had a bit of pullback after the depression of February?

A: It would largely reflect the news flow coming out in terms of what kind of configuration is likely come to power and if the feeling develops as has in the last fortnight, chances are that there would be a more diverse coalition that will ultimately decide the policy in the next few years. There would be some concern in the markets. However, there is also this feeling that there is so much of choppiness in anticipation of the elections and whatever government comes to power immediately after the elections there will be a relief rally reflecting the fact that there is some government in power and we can look forward to a period of some policy making.
