Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Crompton Greaves, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, GAIL India and Tata Steel moved higher on the favourite stocks list while SBI, TCS, ITC, HDFC, Sterlite Industries, NTPC, Tata Power slipped. Larsen and Toubro and Bharti Airtel held same position. Bank Of Baroda entered the favorite top 20 stocks list. Moneycontrol study of the equity portfolios of 36 mutual funds for the month of January, 2010 revealed that bank, oil & gas, capital goods, IT, metal, power were fund houses' favourites while buying interest in FMCG and Telecom was negligible.
Banking stocks occupied MFs top held stocks list. ICICI Bank held the same second position in favourite top 20 stocks list. Axis Bank and HDFC Bank moved up to 12th and 13th position from 16th and 15th position respectively. SBI and HDFC slipped to fifth and 14th position from fourth and 12th place respectively. Bank Of Baroda was newly added in favourite top 20 stocks list. Oil & gas and Capital goods stocks followed next with three stocks each figuring among the top 20. Reliance Industries continued to be the favourite stock. ONGC and GAIL India moved higher to fourth and 16th place from fifth and 18th place. In the Capital goods sector, L&T remained at same sixth spot. Bharat Heavy Electricals and Crompton Greaves moved higher to eight and 10th position. In the IT pack, Infosys Technologies held same fourth position. However, Tata Consultancy Services slipped to ninth position from eight. The list of top 20 stocks showed buying in select Metal, Power, FMCG, and Telecom stocks as MFs bought Sterlite Industries, Tata Steel, NTPC, Tata Power Company, ITC and Bharti Airtel. Reliance Industries (RIL) was the top held stock by 16 out of the 36 MFs in January, 2010. In the month of December, RIL was top held stock by 17 out of 34 MFs. Infosys Technologies and ICICI Bank, the next top favourite stocks were held by four MFs each. DWS, JPmorgan, Morgan and Shinsei top bought was Infosys Technologies. Edelcap, Fortis, HDFC and Reliance top favourite was ICICI Bank.
