Nov Boston Analytics Consumer Confidence Index up at 70.7
The CNBC-TV18 Boston Analytics Consumer Confidence Index is back with over 10000 respondents polled over 15 cities. This index, which is most comprehensive monthly barometer of opinion of Indian consumers on the current and future state of the economy, has thrown up some interesting data for the month of November.
Q: What about employment or job security, did you notice any improvement in there?
A: Yes, we did. This is an interesting area. So, when we look at employment, we look at three factors. We ask people about their observed changes in employment overall in the nation as well as how it expected to be. We may also ask people about their current job securities, how secured they feel in their job and how do they feel about their ability to find an alternative means of employment. Both job security and people's confidence in finding an alternative means of employment actually rose. There is a marginal uptick but we saw an increase in both those factors over this last month in terms of people's overall look at employment in the nation now that actually went down. So, it is a little bit of a mixed picture. This is one of those area that is worth interesting and we need to look at differences by city. If we look at city wise differences in job security for instance, actually in all three factors we see places like Chennai and Bangalore looking more optimistic, which shouldn't be a big surprise given that they are highly focused on IT.
