M&M, HDFC Bank promoters among 163 cos with sub 25% holding

The Securities and Exchange Board ushered in a new takeover code regime yesterday. It hiked takeover trigger to 25% from 15%  and made it mandatory for companies to make open offer for 26%. This may make a lot of promoters/group, who hold less than 25%, a bit edgy. Moneycontrol Research found promoters of 163 listed companies hold less than 25% in their own company.

Mahindra & Mahindra , HDFC Bank , IndusInd Bank and Geodesic are among those companies, whose promoters hold less than 25% in their companies. M&M promoters hold 24.86% in the company and may well cover the 25% threshold.

In addition there are other companies that have a lot of room to increase their existing stake in others:

EIH: East India Hotels promoters hold 34.4% stake in the company, while ITC and Reliance Industries hold 14.98% and 14.8% stake in EIH.

Hotel Leela : Promoter holding stands at 32.2% and ITC holds 13% in the company.

Viceroy Hotels : Promoter holding at 32.2%,  Rakesh Jhunjhunwala holds 11.5% stake.

Autoline Industries : Promoter holding at 28.1% and Rakesh Jhunjhunwala holds 10.2% stake.

Max India : Promoter holding at 35%, Goldman Sachs has 9.4% stake and Warburg Picnus has 9.66% stake.
