The year 2006 has been quite an important year for the BSE Sensex. The Sensex crossed five important levels in this calendar year. Besides crossing the main barriers of 10k,11k,12k,13k and 14k, the Sensex also went through some ups and down.

There was a short bear market from the Sensex's May 11 top of 12,671 to its June 14 bottom at 8,799, when the markets dropped by 31%. Again between December 7-12, the Sensex witnessed a three-day carnage when it fell by 1000 points.

With economic and corporate fundamentals in good shape, the weak spots did not make the experts change their mind as they continued to maintain their bullish stance on the Indian stock market and adviced investors to take these opportunities to pick up quality stocks and not to panic.

They feel that the volatility in the markets is largely due to loss of funds, December vacation mood, short covering and that the upcoming events like good corporate results and budgetary expections, if met, can trigger the markets hereon.

This underlying strength of the market is upheld by the strong India Inc story. Analysing the performance of companies in the five rallies of this calendar year, Moneycontrol finds out a set of 59 companies that participated in all the five rallies of the Sensex. These are all companies with strong inherent stories, experts say.
