Info Edge made a strong debut on the day of its listing. The stock debuted with 50% premium in the morning, touched a high of Rs 623.80 (95% over its issue price) and finally closed at Rs 593.20, which was at 85% premium.

With marketmen talking about Info Edge being one of the most interesting stories in the Indian stock market, Moneycontrol checks out the IPOs of 2006 and their performance.

So far, around 51 companies have entered the capital markets in this calendar year. Out of these companies, five companies had debuted strong. These same companies are now not only trading below their issue price but also have given a negative return.

Emkay Shares & Stock which had closed at a pemium (over its issue price) of 14% to their close price on the day of the listing is now trading  40% below its issue price. The company got listed on April 28 at a price of Rs 148. The issue price was Rs 120.

Uttam Sugar Mills had debuted at a premium of 22.8% to the close price. The scrip got listed on April 10 at a price of Rs 380 and is now trading 56% below its issue price. The issue price was Rs 340.

Nitin Spinner's strong gain of 24.8%( issue price vs close price on Feb 2) on February 2, is history. It is now reporting a loss of 42%, the percentage difference between issue price and close of Nov 23. The stock listed at Rs 28.05 and is now trading at Rs 12.06 (as of Nov 23).

Solar Explosives and Shivalik Global are also sailing in the same boat with both having gained (issue price verses close price) by 38% and 39% on the day of the listing but now are trading below the issue price by 29% and 53% respectively.

There are also these 16 companies that had either gained very little or even had fallen below their issue price on the listing day and have not shown much improvement since then.

For example, Jagran Prakashan , that performed weakly on the bourses on the first day itself has still not shown much progress. On the listing day it gave a negative return of 28%,(close price verses issue price). As of Nov 23, the stock price of the company is Rs 285, a fall of 10% from the issue price. Another stock is Unity Infraprojects that gave a negative return( issue price vs close price) of 30% on the listing day and again a negative return of 21%, as compared to the issue price as of yesterday.

But this list of IPOs also gives a positive picture about stocks that have debuted with robust gains and have succeeded in maintaining the same momentum.

Companies like BL Kashyap & Sons , INOX leisure , Action Construction , Pratibha Industries , Tech Mahindra , Sadbhav Engineering , Developement Credit Bank have all beefed up gains in terms of issue price as against  yesterday's close by 102.62%, 43.29%, 112.96%, 105.25%, 214.47%, 116.54% and 135.96% respectively.
