Investors in such a market need to have a clear vision and adapt stock specific approach. Short-term investors could play the markets any way they like. However, short sellers may be trapped by a swift spike upwards.

Long-term investors should look at every fall in the market as an opportunity. They will be handsomely rewarded for holding on to their portfolio. But they should have vision about the stocks that they hold and believe in that company's fundamentals.

 

Small gap between Cash and futures Nifty sign of short covering 

If Sensex stays above 9987 and Nifty above 3031 then possibly those who have hedged Nifty against their cash portfolio then they should cover it as the rally will go further. Whenever the gap between cash and future Nifty comes down, it is the first indication that short covering is taking place.

Bet on ITC and HLL 

Though there are no pure agriculture or infrastructure plays I'd like to bet on allied sectors from cement and steel and HLL and ITC for their agro-linkages.

 

ACC and Gujarat Ambuja would be my top picks

 

Cement sector is a clear preference and ACC and Gujarat Ambuja would be my top picks from this sector. Banking sector looks moderate and SBI would be a safe bet in this sector.
