Investors confidence seem to have come back again in the following list of 85 companies that is listed on the BSE 500.
If you compare the average volume of the BSE 500 stocks that traded both on the two set of dates, ie, Nov 29, 2005 to May 10, 2006 and June 14, 2006 to September 27, 2006, the list of companies mentioned in the table below are now trading at volumes higher than what they did between Nov 29, 2005 and May 10, 2006. During both these periods markets were trading at same levels, but the same stocks are now trading at higher volumes. To name few, companies like Mahindra Gesco , Vertex Spinning, Hikal , IL&FS Investsmart , Tata Coffee , Gokaldas Exports , Polaris Software are all trading at higher volumes, a percentage increase in the range of 1281.78-203.72%, in this ongoing uptrend vis-a-vis the period between Nov 29, 2005 to May 10, 2006. It should be kept in mind that the first leg of the rally was between Nov 29, 05 and May 10, 2006 and during that period markets were trading at levels between 8931.16-12612.38. Markets crashed on May 11, 2006 and started recovering from June 14, 2006, which is considered the second leg of the rally. The same 8929 level was again seen on June 14 and currently markets are trading at 12,428 levels. Another interesting fact to notice is that after the May crash, just in four months these companies have again come to the same trading levels and have even gone up, than what it was during the first rally. During the first rally the stocks took nearly five months to reach those levels. This suggests that retail investors have again started participating and maybe participating more in these stocks.
On the other hand, as many as 496 of the BSE 500 stocks have not still got back the trust of retail investors. Out of these 496 companies, the volume of nearly 220 companies are 100-50% away from the volumes it was trading at before May 11. The list includes companies like BL Kashyap , Sun TV , Pratibha Industries , Nitco Tiles , Pyramid Retail, ABG Shipyard , Renuka Sugar , Punjab Tractors and may more.
