Bloodbath was witnessed across the sectors, with banking, auto, construction, real estate and steel shares among the most hit. However, sugar shares were the least affected. Banking sector was the worst hit with the Private and PSU banks all down in the range of 5% to 10% each. Interest rate sensitive auto shares were also hit on concerns that a rise in lending rates will rein in demand. Majority of the stocks listed on the BSE 500 index lost gains in the range of 11-0.09% yesterday. But, around 40 of the 500 stocks braved the fall and beefed up gains yesterday. And 71% of these stocks were midcap sized companies. Some of the midcap companies that made it to the list are Gujarat State Petronet , India Infoline , Balrampur Chini , Educomp Sol , Triveni Engineering , Bannari Amman , Sakthi Sugars etc. Amongst the frontliners companies that gave modest gains yesterday were Neyveli Lignite , Hindustan Zinc , Gail , Nestle India , Colgate Palmolive and HMT .
