Banks see mkt cap dip in June quarter

Of the 36 banks that are listed on the BSE, only one has managed to increase its marketcap in the three month ending June 2006. And HDFC Bank enjoys that glory when it increased its marketcap from Rs 24221.38 crore in March 2006 to Rs 24830.24 crore in June 2006, thus registering a 2.51% gain in three months. But the rest have shown a decline in their market caps indicating fall in the prices of shareoutstanding of these banks.

Two other private sector bank - ICICI Bank and UTI Bank -have fallen by 17.09%  and 24.76%, respectively in the June quarter of 2006. Other top performers like the State Bank of India , Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda have all lost market cap. 

The worst performer during the quarter ending June 2006 has been United West Bank registering a whopping 53.58% dip in its market cap.
