Increasingly, nonprofit organizations are called upon to address the most critical issues facing society-from the revitalization of cities to the transformation of educational, health, and social service systems to the strengthening of civic, cultural, and social institutions.
Today, amidst escalating competition for philanthropic funds, government cutbacks, technology innovations, demographic shifts, and growing public scrutiny, nonprofits operate in a turbulent environment. The mounting challenges and opportunities facing the nonprofit world are placing tough, complex demands on nonprofit boards.
To succeed in this new reality, nonprofits require strong, innovative board leaders who can respond in an environment of continual change. Governing for Nonprofit Excellence (GNE): Critical Issues for Board Leadership is an Executive Education program developed at Harvard Business School (HBS) to help maximize the contributions of nonprofit board leaders.
The program challenges participants to examine their organizations and to rethink their roles-in order to develop a strategic outlook for improving the effectiveness of their organizations.
