Sensex volatile; RIL, Tata Steel, BPCL, Unitech top losers

Sensex volatile; RIL, Tata Steel, BPCL, Unitech top losers

At 13.23 hrs IST, the Sensex was trading with some volatility after witnessing smart surge in the morning trade. Reliance, ITC, NTPC, Tata Steel and Jindal Steel were negative contributors to the bourses. Selling was seen in oil & gas, metal and realty stocks.

 

The Sensex was up 18.31 points or 0.11% at 16695.35. The Nifty was up 5.10 points or 0.10% at 4963.50. It has touched an intra day high of 5003.05 and an intra day low of 4944.15.

 

About 1087 shares advanced, 1645 shares declined, and 471 shares were unchanged.

 

Samir Arora of Helios Capital said he did not expect such a quick move towards 5,000 but felt there definitely would be more fund inflows for the rest of 2009. He added that more investors were now feeling left out of the rally and would come back into the market.

 

Top losers on the Sensex were Reliance at Rs 2,089.80 down 4.29%, Tata Steel at Rs 522.40 down 1.73%, Reliance Infra at Rs 1,179 down 1.34%, NTPC at Rs 208.20 down 0.81% and Hero Honda at Rs 1,668 down 0.36%.


Top losers on the Nifty were BPCL at Rs 536.85 down 4.75%, Reliance at Rs 2,085.20 down 4.52%, Unitech at Rs 110.45 down 2.64%, SAIL at Rs 175.65 down 2.06% and Suzlon Energy at Rs 96.65 down 2.03%.

 

However, Top gainers on the Sensex were ACC at Rs 827 up 3.53%, Bharti Airtel at Rs 433.45 up 3.20%, Wipro at Rs 572.30 up 3.14%, Tata Power at Rs 1,337.95 up 2.54% and TCS at Rs 582.60 up 2.17%.

 

Most active shares on NSE were Reliance at Rs 2,077.80 with volumes of 13,901,232, Tata Steel at Rs 521 with volumes of 7,311,528, SBI at Rs 2,110 with volumes of 1,658,360, Unitech at Rs 110.10 with volumes of 31,643,638 and ICICI Bank at Rs 870.60 with volumes of 3,946,845.

 

Top percentage gainers on the BSE - Bannari A Spg, Jet Airways, Classic Diamond, SpiceJet and Albert David were up 14-20%.
