Sensex, Nifty rally 5% in Nov series; metals, banks, IT up

The Sensex gained 5% and the Nifty was up 5.37% in the November series, led by buying in metal, auto, banking and technology stocks.

The BSE Metal Index Index gained 14.5%, as JSW Steel, Hindustan Zinc 32% and Sesa Goa gained 25-35%.

The BSE Auto Index rose 11.6%, as Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors and Maruti

rallied 13-15%.

In the banking space, Dena Bank shot up 28%. Allahabad Bank and Vijaya Bank gained 17-18%. The BSE Bankex rose 8%.

However, the BSE Realty Index tumbled 4.9%. Indiabulls Real was down 15%. DLF and Unitech were down 4.5-5.5%.

Telecom stocks lost ground in the month of November. Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications and Bharti Airtel fell 10-11.5%.

Among the broader indices, the CNX Midcap Index was up 8.5% and BSE Small Cap Index up nearly 6%.

Jindal Saw was up 28%. GAIL, Orchid Chemical, Dish TV and GSPL were up 15-18% while Balrampur Chini was down 14.5%. Educomp Solutions fell 8.5%.
