Nifty rangebound; FMCG, auto, metal, cap goods dip

At 14.28 hrs IST, Nifty was trading flat with positive bias. It was yet another dull session for the markets. The Nifty was trading in a narrow band of 20 points. Buying was seen in IT, consumer durables and banks. Selling was seen in auto, FMCG, metals and capital goods stocks. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index were trading in red.

The Sensex was up 22.81 points or 0.13% at 17121.14, and the Nifty up 8.70 points or 0.17% at 5124.95. About 1180 shares advanced, 1737 shares declined, and 269 shares were unchanged.

In the largecap space, Bharti Airtel was the top gainer. Sun Pharma, Sterlite Industries, TCS and NTPC were up 1% each. On the losing side, HUL was down close to 4%. Hindalco, Hero Honda, Maruti Suzuki and Reliance Communications were down 1-2%.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,014.00 up 0.59% from its previous close of Rs 1,008.05. Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 229.40 down 3.96% from its previous close of Rs 238.85.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,680.25 up 0.77% from its previous close of Rs 2,659.85. Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 254.00 down 0.04% from its previous close of Rs 254.10. Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 330.20 down 2.67% from its previous close of Rs 339.25.

Top gainers on the BSE Midcap: Gammon Infra, Core Projects, CMC, Torrent Pharma and Pidilite Industries were up 3-6%.

Top losers on the BSE Midcap: Sterlite Technologies, Shree Renuka, REI Six Ten, Balrampur Chini and MVL were down 3-5%.

Top gainers on the BSE Smallcap: CenturyPlyboard, Take Solutions, MSP Steel, Elantas Beck and Aarti Industries were up 6-12%.

Top losers on the BSE Smallcap: OM Metals Infra, Atco Corp, Dhampur Sugar, Dalmia Cement and Gee Kay Finance were down 5-8%.
