Nifty holds 5400; metal, realty, auto up

At 10.52 hrs IST, the market was trading in green with marginal gains. BSE 30-share Sensex opened with 200 points gap up. However, it was unable to sustain the morning gains and lost nearly 100 points from day's high.

Buying was seen in metal, realty, auto and oil&gas stocks. IT and telecom stocks were reeling under selling pressure.

The Sensex was up 72.01 points or 0.40% at 18070.42, and the Nifty was up 24.00 points or 0.44% at 5432.70. About 1991 shares advanced, 1022 shares declined, and 372 shares remain unchanged.

In the largecap space, Tata Steel, ONGC, Hindalco, ABB and Jindal Steel were up 1.7-3%. On the losing side, TCS, Infosys, Suzlon Energy, Siemens and HCL Tech were down 0.7-1.5%.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 952.25 up 0.26% from its previous close of Rs 949.75. Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 535.45 up 0.55% from its previous close of Rs 532.50. Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,669.00 down 1.47% from its previous close of Rs 2,708.85.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 159.95 down 0.84% from its previous close of Rs 161.30. Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 263.25 down 0.11% from its previous close of Rs 263.55.

Top gainers on the BSE Midcap: EIH, Pipavav, Wockhardt, United Breweries and Mahindra Holidays were up 3-8%.

Top losers on the BSE Midcap: Hindustan Construction, IBN18 Broadcast, Jubilant Food and Syndicate Bank were down 2-3%.

Top gainers on the BSE Smallcap: HBL Power, EIH Associated Hotel, Greenply Industries, Hercules Hoists and Dynamatic Tech were up 9-15%.

Top losers on the BSE Smallcap: Subhkam Capital, Ramsarup Ind, Kanani Industr and Bartronics were down 4-5%.
