Mkts succumb to profit booking: Sensex sheds 150 pts

Markets southbound: Key indices in red

The markets have slipped further on the back of selling pressure witnessed across the sectors. At 2:10 pm IST, the Sensex is down 84.24 points or 0.58% at 14318.66, and the Nifty down 44.85 points or 1.08% at 4119.7. About 698 shares have advanced, 1762 shares declined, and 62 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Ranbaxy Labs at Rs 396.30 up 1.20%, ITC at Rs 176 up 0.86% and HLL at Rs 206.35 up 0.61%.

Top losers on the Sensex are Reliance Comm at Rs 451.50 down 2.48%, Grasim at Rs 2,590 down 2.29%, HDFC at Rs 1,660 down 1.91%.

Most active shares on BSE are Indiabulls at Rs 446.60 with 31,30,458, Reliance at Rs 1,425 with 8,74,203 shares and GBN at Rs 641.60 with 16,87,627 shares.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 206.30 up 0.59% from its previous close of Rs 205.10.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,429.05 up 0.76% from its previous close of Rs 1,418.25.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,363.50 down 0.59% from its previous close of Rs 2,377.50.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 175.95 up 0.83% from its previous close of Rs 174.50.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 288.15 up 2.25% from its previous close of Rs 281.80.

Markets lackluster: Grasim, ONGC down

The markets have lost some further ground on the back of selling pressure witnessed in the auto, banking, consumer durable, cap goods, FMCG and IT stocks. Oil & gas and metal space are still holding ground with meagre gains.

At 1.45 pm IST, the Sensex is down 52.53 points or 0.36% at 14350, and the Nifty down 21.40 points or 0.51% at 4143.15. About 814 shares have advanced, 1614 shares declined, and 71 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Ranbaxy Labs Rs 398 up 1.63%, Hero Honda at Rs 724 up  0.95% and Reliance at Rs 1,430.50 up 0.86%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are Grasim at Rs 2,608 down 1.61%, ONGC at Rs 890.90 down 1.55% and Reliance Comm at Rs 456.20 down 1.47%. 

Top gainers on the Nifty are GAIL at Rs 300 up 2.34%, HPCL at Rs 287.80 up 1.86% and HCL Tech at Rs 704.20 up 1.70%.

Top losers on the Nifty are Suzlon Energy at Rs 995.65 down 3.41%, Zee Entertain at Rs 252.95 down 2.9% and ONGC at Rs 888.50 down 1.95%.

Most active shares on BSE are Indiabulls at Rs 446.95 with 18,38,323 shares, GBN at Rs 667.80 with 10,11,068 shares and Cinemax India at Rs 183 with 31,31,207 shares.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,371.95 down 0.23% from its previous close of Rs 2,377.50.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 175.15 up 0.37% from its previous close of Rs 174.50.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 287.15 up 1.9% from its previous close of Rs 281.80.

Markets sluggish: ONGC, Maruti lose ground

The markets are trading sluggish after modest opening today. Selling pressure was seen in the auto, bank, consumer durables, pharma and capital good stocks. However, oil and gas stocks are holding ground.

At 11.05 am IST, the Sensex is down 5.86 points or 0.04% at 14397.04, and the Nifty down 9.05 points or 0.22% at 4155.5. About 850 shares have advanced, 1233 shares declined, and 63 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Tata Steel at Rs 449.20 up 1.21%, Hero Honda at Rs 725 up 1.09% and SBI at Rs 1,142.10 up 1.01%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are ONGC at Rs 892 down 1.43%, Maruti Udyog at Rs 907 down 0.78% and Reliance Comm at Rs 459.55 down 0.75%.

Most active shares on BSE are Indiabulls at Rs 449.50 with 8,28,685 shares and Godrej Ind at Rs 180 with 19,04,296 shares.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 205.20 up 0.05% from its previous close of Rs 205.10.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,432.80 up 1.03% from its previous close of Rs 1,418.25.

Mkts slip amidst selling pressure: Sensex below 14400

After modest opening today the markets have slipped little bit on the back of selling pressure witnessed across the sectors. At 10:35 am, Sensex was down 14 points at 14388 and Nifty was down 10 points at 4154.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Tata Steel at Rs 449.20 up 1.21%, Hero Honda at Rs 725 up 1.09% and SBI at Rs 1,142.10 up 1.01%. 

Top losers on the Sensex are ONGC at Rs 892 down 1.43%, Maruti Udyog at Rs 907 down 0.78% and Reliance Comm at Rs 459.55 down 0.75%.

Most active shares on BSE are Indiabulls at Rs 449.50 with 8,28,685 shares and Godrej Ind at Rs 180 with 19,04,296 shares.

Markets open with modest gain: Banking stocks firm

After flat end yesterday, the markets opened in modest green today. Buying interest was seen in the banking stocks, however telecom, sugar and metal packs were trading weak in opening trade.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 46 points at 14449 and Nifty was up 10 points at 4163. Major gainers in the opening trade were ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC Bank, Rel Comm, Reliance, PNB, L&T and ONGC. However, Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, HLL and Hindalco were trading weak.

Asian Markets:

Asian stocks were mixed today, Japan's Nikkei plunged 0.55% or 98.71 points at 17,841.38, Singapore's Straits Times fell 0.48% or 15.56 points at 3,236.93, However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was up 0.94% or 72.62 points at 7,809.45. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.14% or 29.49 points at 20,567.91 and South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 1,449.77.

Market cues:

  • SBI hikes PLR by 75 bps from today
  • FIIs net buy USD 139.2 million in equity on Feb 15
  • MFs net buy Rs 105 crore (Rs 1.05 billion) in equity on Feb 15
  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 332 crore (Rs 3.32 billion) at Rs 62,077 crore (Rs 620.77 billion)

  • Futures Open Interest up by Rs 137 crore (Rs 1.37 billion); Options Open Interest up by Rs 195 crore (Rs 1.95 billion)
  • Marketwide rollover at 28%; Nifty rollover at 36%

  • Nifty Feb, Mar Futures at 12-point premium
