Mkts end in red amid huge gyration: Bank, auto slip

The markets witnessed extreme gyration during the trade today and cracked in the last one hour before close. It close down today on the back of selling pressure in the auto, bank, capital goods and IT stocks.

At the close, the Sensex was down 42 points at 13340, and the Nifty down 16 points at 3815. About 1073 shares have advanced, 1413 shares declined, and 75 shares are unchanged.

The BSE midcap index was down 0.38% or 21.38 points at 5574.40 and the BSE smallcap index was down 0.21% or 13.94 points at 6,620.86.


The auto index fell 0.50% or 25.93 points at 5205.23. Tata Motors, Hero Honda, Sundaram-Clayto,  Apollo Tyres and Cummins ended in negative terrain.

The bankex tumbled 1.01% or 69.68 points at 6841.88. Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, Allahabad Bank, Oriental Bank and ICICI Bank slid.

The capital goods index dropped 0.76% or 67.26 points at 8826.71. Gammon India, Alstom Projects, Bharat Elec, Lakshmi Machine and Thermax closed in red.

The FMCG, healthcare and IT indices closed flat at 1902.59, 3684.38 and 5040.88 respectively.

However, the metal index was up 0.45% or 38.76 points at 8644.17. Hindustan Zinc, Hindalco, Ispat Industries and Jindal Stainless ended up.

The oil & gas index was up 0.33% or 20.15 points at 6039.31. Aban Offshore, BPCL, Essar oil, GAIL and HPCL ended in green.

The total turnover for today was Rs 60524 crore, out of which NSE and BSE cash turnover stood at Rs 10048.68 crore and 4394.68 crore respectively. The NSE F&O turnover was Rs 46081 crore.

Markets firm: IT,metal, oil stocks gain

The markets are trading firm on the back of sustained buying in the index heavyweights. All the sectoral indices are in green. Metal, IT, consumer goods stocks are the leading gainers. At 2 pm IST, the Sensex is up 126.13 points or 0.94% at 13508.14, and the Nifty up 52.45 points or 1.37% at 3884.45.

About 1316 shares have advanced, 1072 shares declined, and 90 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Tata Steel at Rs 472 up 3.84%, ONGC at Rs 866.80 up 2.40% and ITC at Rs 172.05 up 2.20%.

Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC Bank at Rs 1,020 down 1.72%, Tata Motors at Rs 851 down 1.37% and Hero Honda at Rs 744.05 down 1.16%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are Tata Steel at Rs 471.60 up 3.64%, Mahindra and Mahindra at Rs 817.45 up 2.85% and ONGC at Rs 867.50 up 2.64%.

Top losers on the Nifty Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,249.90 down 2.31%, HDFC Bank at Rs 1,019.50 down 1.85% and HCL Tech at Rs 593 down 1.57%.

Most active shares on BSE are Sobha Developer at Rs 966.50 with 52,26,007 shares, Reliance at Rs 1,256 with  8,30,997 shares and Tech Mahindra at Rs 1,232.20 with 8,46,978 shares. 

Most active shares on NSE are Sobha Developer at Rs 964 with 1,03,57,761 shares, Reliance Comm at Rs 461.05 with 72,54,080 shares and Reliance at Rs 1,257.50 with 25,66,393 shares.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 222.50 down 1% from its previous close of Rs 224.75.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,257 up 0.32% from its previous close of Rs 1,253.05.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,190.50 up 1.64% from its previous close of Rs 2,155.20.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 172.35 up 2.38% from its previous close of Rs 168.35.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 270.85 up 0.59% from its previous close of Rs 269.25.

Markets recover: IT, metal, FMCG stocks up

The markets have recovered and are trading flat amid sharp volatility. IT, metal, FMCG, oil & gas and auto stocks have inched up. At 12.25 pm IST, the Sensex is up 40.33 points or 0.30% at 13422.34, and the Nifty up 19.20 points or 0.50% at 3851.2. About 1059 shares have advanced, 1147 shares declined, and 93 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are ACC at Rs 1,032 up 1.40%, ITC at Rs 170.70 up 1.40% and Bharti Airtel at Rs 612 up 1.34%.

Top losers on the Sensex are Larsen at Rs 1,388.20 down 1.95%, Tata Motors at Rs 850.05 down 1.48%, HDFC Bank at Rs 1,023 down 1.44%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are Mahindra and Mahindra at Rs 814.95 up 2.54%, GAIL at Rs 253.05 up 2.22% and NALCO at Rs 213.75 up 1.79%.

Top losers on the Nifty are Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,244.90 down 2.7%, HCL Tech at Rs 586.75 down 2.61% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,021.75 down 1.64%.

Markets southbound: All indices in red

The markets have collapsed remarkably on account of heavy selling witnessed across the sector. All the BSE indices are trading in red. At 11.30 am IST, the Sensex is down 128 points or 0.76% at 13253.75, and the Nifty down 33.75 points or 0.88% at 3798.25.

About 884 shares have advanced, 1192 shares declined, and 81 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are ITC at Rs 170.15 up 1.07%, Cipla at Rs 242.50 up 0.62% and Bharti Airtel at Rs 605.25 up 0.22%.

Top losers on the Sensex are Tata Motors at Rs 833 down 3.46%, Reliance Comm at Rs 437.80 down 2.96% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,008 down 2.88%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are GAIL at Rs 251.90 up 1.76%, ITC at Rs 170.90 up 1.48% and Mahindra and Mahindra Rs 806.05 up 1.42%.

Top losers on the Nifty are Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,222 down 4.49%, HCL Tech at Rs 580 down 3.73%  and Zee Rs 264.40 down 3.11%.

Markets trading choppy: Sensex, Nifty flat

The markets are trading flat amid volatility. All the major indices are in green with moderate gain, however the cap goods stocks are facing problem to hold ground and are trading in red with moderate loss.

At 10.57 am IST, the Sensex is up 42.33 points or 0.32% at 13424.34, and the Nifty up 9.75 points or 0.25% at 3841.75. About 1091 shares have advanced, 791 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are ITC at Rs 171.25 up 1.72%, Wipro at Rs 573 up 1.07% and ONGC at Rs 855.15 up 1.02%.

Top losers on the Sensex are Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 790 down 1.4%, BHEL at Rs 2,255 down 1.38% and Guj Ambuja Cem at Rs 133.50 down 1.22%.

Top gainers on the Nifty are NALCO at Rs 214.40 up 2.10%, ITC at Rs 171.90 up 2.08% and Mahindra and Mahindra at Rs 807.90 down 1.65%.

Top losers on the Nifty are HCL Tech at Rs 590.85 down 1.93%, Suzlon Energy at Rs 1,259 down 1.59% and HDFC Bank at Rs 1,025 down 1.32%.

Most active shares on BSE are Sobha Developer at Rs 968.10 with 24,83,296 shares, Reliance at Rs 1,247.90 with 1,93,592 shares and Reliance Comm at Rs 448.55 with 5,36,815 shares.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 171.50 up 1.87% from its previous close of Rs 168.35.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 272.10 up 1.06% from its previous close of Rs 269.25.

Mkts bounces back: Sensex up by 152 points

The markets opened stronger today following the nightmarish gyration yesterday. Bulls seems to be in full flow in the morning session today wherein buying interest was seen in technology, auto, cement, telecom stocks.

At 9:58 am, the Sensex was up 152 points, at 13540 and the Nifty was up 44 points at 3867.

Major Gainers in the opening trade today were Reliance, HDFC Bank, L&T, TCS, Infosys, ITC, Rel. Comm., ACC, Siemens.

Sobha Developers witnessed spectacular listing today at Rs 1200 with a premium of over Rs 500. Ruchira papers listed at Rs 22.

Asian shares were higher today, Japan's Nikkei gained 0.94% or 157.37 points at 16,934.25, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.87% or 164.41 points at 19,128.961, Singapore's Straits Time surged 1.30% or 37.73 points at 2,935.03, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was up 0.48% or 36.32 points at 7,635.20 and South Korea's Seoul Composite advanced 0.98% or 13.95 points at 1,441.71.

Dow closes yesterday at a new record high of 12492 on blue chip gains.
