Markets end weak amid profit booking

The markets ended weak for third consecutive day on account of profit booking in scrips across sectors. The Sensex closed at 12,723.59 down 135 points and the Nifty closed at 3678 down 33 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,365.55 down 11.75 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,266.59 down 18.56 points.

The BSE Metal Index was down 0.7% to close at 8,917.81. Hind Zinc, Sesa Goa, Sterlite Ind, Tata Steel and Mah Seamless were among the losers.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 0.7% to close at 5,895.01. Chennai Petro, Petronet LNG, MRPL, Reliance Natural and Reliance were among the losers.

The BSE Bankex was down 1.2% at 6,195.23. Bank of India, IOB, Bank of Baroda, Oriental Bank and Andhra Bank moved downwards.

The BSE Health Care Index was plunged 1% at 3,637.87. Apollo Hospital, Glenmark, Ranbaxy Labs, Wockhardt and Nicholas Piramal and Orchid Chemical closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index slipped 1.2% at 2,031.94. McDowell, ITC, Tata Tea and Nirma closed in green.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 1% at 8,379.92  Aban Offshore, L&T, Praj Industries, Gammon India and Siemens ended lower

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,314.20 down 1.2%. TVS Motor, Sundaram-Clayto, Bajaj Auto, Bharat Forge and Cummins were among the losers.

The BSE IT Index closed at 4,793.06 down 1%. Hexaware Tech, HCL Info, Satyam, I-Flex Solution and HCL Tech ended weak.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7298 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 32055.82 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3480.28 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 42834.1 crore.

  • CNX Midcap Index down 1%; mid cap IT stocks held
  • Geometric Software up 15.1%, Tech Mahindra up 13%, Geodesic Inf up 10%
  • BSE Small-cap Index outperform major indices; ends marginally down
  • Zenith Birla up 10%, Mysore Cement up 8.9%
  • NSE Advance Decline ratio at 1:2
  • Total market turnover at Rs 42834.1 cr Vs Rs 37583.64 cr on Wednesday
