The markets closed flat due to lack of buying interest in scrips. The Sensex closed at 11,706.85 up 17.07 points or 0.15%. The Nifty gained 4.65 points or 0.14% to close at 3430.35.
About 1043 shares advanced, 1445 shares declined, and 72 shares were unchanged.

The BSE FMCG Index closed was up 0.8% at 2,013.71. ITC, P&G, HLL, Britannia and Colgate closed in green.
The BSE Bankex was up 0.65% at 5,307.68. Federal Bank, Centurion BoP, Canara Bank, Vijaya Bank and Union Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.9% at 5,725.06. BPCL, Kochi Refin, HPCL, Petronet LNG and IOC rose higher.
The BSE Health Care Index gained 0.4% at 3,533.79. Ipca Labs, Cadila Health, Nicholas Pirama, Ranbaxy Labs and Sterling Bio gained.
The BSE Auto Index closed flat at 4,979.63. Exide Industries, Apollo Tyres, Escorts and MRF were among the losers.
The BSE IT Index lost 0.3% at 4,286.71. HCL Info, Mphasis BFL, Moser Baer, TCS moved downwards on the bourses.
The BSE Capital Goods Index lost 0.3% at 7,781.45. Gammon India, Aban LoydChiles, Thermax, Bharat Elec and BEML closed lower.
The BSE Metal Index lost 2.2% at 8,221.80. JSW Steel, Hind Zinc, JindalStainless, Sterlite Ind, SAIL and Tata Steel witnessed selling pressure.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5790.28 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 26994.53 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2710.14 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 35494.95 crore.

Markets open on a positive note
The markets have opened on positive note. At 9:57 am, the Sensex was up 41 points at 11747. The Nifty was up 10 points at 3436.
Tata Motors, L&T, HLL, Ranbaxy, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, Maruti, Wipro, ICICI Bank, Hero Honda, Dr Reddy's, HPCL, BPCL and SAIL were major gainers on the bourses.
Asian markets were trading mixed; Japan's Nikkei was down 33.26 points or 0.21% at 15,857.3.
FIIs were net buyers of USD 9.30 million and MFs net sellers of Rs 10.8 crore (Rs 108 million) in equity on August 28.
Wall Street advanced on release of Federal Reserve minutes; the Dow Jones industrial average ended up 17.93 points, or 0.16%, to 11,369.94.
The sweet crude fell 90 cents to USD 69.71 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
