People of India are the real disruptors, not me: Narendra Modi

A few months before the proposed rollout of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the manner in which a consensus was arrived at on the new tax regime. States took initiative and ownership of passage and the path taken by them underline the country’s democratic values, he said.

In his speech titled “Setting India's New Agenda” at the India Today Conclave, Modi said minute changes can have huge impact. He said his government has brought in measures to offer better economic opportunities to citizens. The “new India” he envisions is a land of opportunity of all, he added.

As he has done in the past, Modi thanked the citizens for showing both resilience and patience since demonetisation. He said that he appreciated them for uniting with his government’s fight against black money and corruption. Transparency is priority of the government, he added.

Modi said that Indian citizens are in true sense disruptors and not him.

Stressing upon the need for fast growth in the country, Modi said that development agenda should be like freedom movement. Going ahead, the government will focus on next generation infrastructure and significant resources have been allocated to the railway and road sector, the Prime Minister announced. He expressed confidence in the quickened progress of work in the railway and road sector.
