So while people watch their weight, they boost muesli sales

Kids and advertisers went ape over cornflakes as an alternative and healthy (really?) breakfast to traditional Indian meals. Cornflakes had a good run but now people are starting to ditch the cereal for something they perceive as better. Muesli is climbing to the top spot in the family breakfast table. It contains more calories, proteins and fiber compared to cornflakes and kids are lapping it up.

Cornflakes sales, in the last quarter, have only grown by nine percent. Muesli, however, has grown by 40%.

In a slow and steady manner, muesli has grown to become a favoured cereal among adults. "The ingredients that go into muesli are multifarious and interesting and it is promoted as providing a range of health benefits including weight management," says Viney Singh, MD, of retail chain Spar.
