Scams, corruption, and controversy, corporate India has had enough of the negativity, and is readying to clean up its act. But instead of management principles and exact sciences, India Inc is taking to some good old fashioned soul searching.
This movement begins with one man, Shri Shri Ravishankar at whose request over 700 delegates, including union ministers, and the leaders of some of India’s largest conglomerates like the Future Group, Infosys, ICICI, Videocon, HDFC Bank, Pearson's, UBS, and Tata Global Beverages have come together to lay down the foundations for corporate spirituality.
KV Kamath, Chairman, Infosys said, "Today more than ever in India and abroad, businesses are trying to redefine their own cultures. How you build spirituality into the very DNA of the organisation is an issue we hope to deliberate over the next few days"
A full-blown spiritual transformation will necessarily be gradual but some companies are already a few steps ahead of the rest. Future Group, for instance, has a chief belief officer, Devdutt Pattanaik, who draws from mythology and scriptures to create an ethical leadership model.
Kishore Biyani, ceo, Future Group, said "Mythology helps us understand human behavior and human dynamics. For a chief belief officer, it's the belief system which makes the behaviour of the organization, the culture of the organization and that results into outcomes."
However, this corporte kumbh is not just about spirituality. We learn from members of the Karnataka government that corporate deals are not off the table at all. MOUs worth up to Rs 400 crore are expected to be signed over this weekend, under the leadership of the top corporate bosses who are in attendance.
