Frenzied fans lined up to catch a glimpse of their heroes Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Karan Johar's film 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', KANK, was one of the Gala Presentations. In downtown Toronto, in the shadow of the spectacular Canadian National Tower, an endless queue snaked its way to the Roy Thomson Hall to witness a Bollywood spectacle.
It was the red carpet premiere of KANK at the Toronto International Film Festival, and the crowd was waiting for Shahrukh Khan, Karan Johar and Amitabh Bachchan, who arrived to a frenzied welcome. Amitabh Bachchan told CNN-IBN, "It shows the acceptance of Indian cinema globally." Shahrukh Khan, ofcourse, mouthed the right platitudes, "When I come to these festivals, I go as an ambassador of Indian cinema."
'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', which broke opening weekend box office records for Hindi films in North America, leads a sizeable Indian contingent at the Toronto International Film Festival this year.
Crowds snaking their way for blocks, screaming fans - it was a fitting sideshow to the Gala Presentation of KANK at the Toronto Festival and stars of the film did not disappoint the fans.
Meanwhile, it's not just KANK that is making all the news at the Toronto film festival. Brad Pitt's latest film 'Babel' premiered and bad boy Russell Crowe walked the red carpet for his 'Good Year'. And as expected fans couldn't get enough of these guys as well.
When Brad Pitt appears, mass hysteria is quite predictable. And much to the delight of the shutterbugs, the actor arrived with his usual pizzazz. And if you thought you would spot Angelina Jolie around somewhere well Brad said, "No, she couldn't make it."
'Babel' also stars Cate Blanchett and revolves around an American couple out on vacation in Morocco, where the wife is mysteriously murdered. Babel will have a limited American release on November 17. Actor Russel Crowe, its a rather good year. The bad boy was spotted on his best behaviour, as he walked down the red carpet for the premiere of his film 'Good Year'.
The film has Crowe in the role of an investment banker whose life is changed forever after his uncle dies leaving behind his vineyard. The film also brings back the hit pair of Crowe and director Ridley Scott after 'Gladiator'. The film opens for the public in the US from November 10.
