It will be a British summer for Bollywood next year, as the IIFA awards go to the largest British county of Yorkshire. IIFA's brand ambassador, Amitabh Bachchan formally launched the awards at the House of Commons in London on Wednesday.
The IIFA awards are coming back to the UK, where they started seven years ago. The 8th annual International Indian Film Academy weekend will take place in Yorkshire in the UK in June next year. The formal launch on Wednesday evening took place in the House of Commons by the brand ambassador, The Big B himself. And Yorkshire seems to have won his heart for sure!
Actor, Amitabh Bachchan told CNBC-TV18, "It's unchartered territory, its unique and has a marvellous history and the surroundings are interesting because of the scenery."
Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, UK, Tessa Jowell says, "Hosting the awards in Yorkshire will also provide further tangible evidence of the growing bond between the two countries and what Yorkshire can offer to filmmakers."
The IIFA weekend will kick off on the June 7 next year and in keeping with tradition, there will be a blockbuster premier, business and cultural events including exhibitions and even a 20:20 cricket match.
A special tribute will also be paid to the late Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Around 28,000 visitors are expected in Yorkshire for the event and the expected earnings are estimated at £9.5 million. So, Britain is gearing up to get a taste of Bollywood next summer.
