Iggy Pop, Ronnie Wood honoured at London awards

LONDON (Reuters Life!) - Punk rocker Iggy Pop won the living legend award late on Monday at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards.

Ronnie Wood was also among those honoured at the London event, organised by Classic Rock Magazine, picking up his outstanding contribution award from The Who's Pete Townshend.

The magazine said the prize was in recognition of "his musical achievements with The Jeff Beck Group, The Faces and now The Rolling Stones, and honouring his ageless presence on the scene."

AC/DC won album of the year for "Black Ice", which debuted at No. 1 on album charts in 29 countries when it was released in 2008.

Iron Maiden was named Band of the Year, Chickenfoot, combining Sammy Hagar of Van Halen and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers among others, scooped best new band, and late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham won the Tommy Vance Inspiration Award.

DVD/film of the year went to documentary "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", about the Canadian heavy metal band formed in the late 1970s which enjoyed renewed popularity as a result of the movie.
