Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has promised to examine in detail seven critical proposals of the Direct Taxes Code, which include taxation of savings schemes and imposition of Minimum Alternate Tax on gross assets before finalising the draft. The minister re-iterated added that the new code will be effective from the April 2011.

"We will try to expedite the process but at the same time we will give adequate time to examine each valid suggestion that will come from the stake holder because we do not want to commit any mistake in our anxiety to get it done. Therefore, every care will be taken and every aspect will be analysed very carefully," Mukherjee said. "When it will be ready, I will bring it."
