Telecom probe: Opposition guns for A Raja
Ravi Shankar Prasad who is a spokesperson of BJP said that the cabinet minister’s office department has been raided for the first time by the CBI. Hence, removal of A Raja is necessary and he should be sacked henceforth.
Andimuthu Raja, the Union Minister of Telecom, is facing rough weathers with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carrying out raids at Department of Telecom's (DoT) headquarters in the capital over alleged irregularities in allotting 2G spectrum and licences to operators. The DoT works is under the Telecom Ministry's office and leaders of the opposition are gunning for Raja, who belongs to Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK), which is part of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Bhartiya Janta Party Spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad called for Raja to be removed from the Cabinet. "A cabinet minister's office department has been raided for the first time by the CBI. A Raja's removal is necessary and he should be sacked henceforth," he said.
Sitaram Yechury, Politburo Member of Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M), said, "It is up to the Prime Minister and the Union Cabinet as to how they will be accountable to the people and the country. The minister has said that he will not resign. So now they have to ensure how they will be accountable, which they always claim is the hallmark of the government."
Raja has, on his part, defended the DoT and said all norms as accorded by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) were followed.
