The government is drawing up a comprehensive seamless mobility plan to integrate the entire transport system for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which can attract investments of nearly Rs 4-5 lakh crore over the next 5-10 years.

"Mumbai is the commercial, financial and entertainment capital of India. If we have to develop the megapolis as an international financial service centre, we need to create a seamless mobility transport ecosystem," Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said at a session during the 'Make in India' Week here.

Fadnavis put a premium on the need to integrate all the modes of transport, including roads, bridges, bus, metro rail, railway and monorail, to achieve seamless mobility.

The MMR, according to the chief minister, has a potential to attract nearly Rs 4-5 lakh crore of staggered investment over 5-10 years.

"Earlier, we used to think about from where we will source funds for developing infrastructure. But today, we are at a position that the world wants to invest in our projects.

The only thing they (investors) want from us is transparency and clearances," he said.

Currently, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is following a mobility plan developed in 2008.

Additionally, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation has also submitted its mobility plan proposal to MMRDA. Both plans would be integrated to create one single plan for MMR.
