Northwest India may see drought if deficiency persist: IMD

The MET Department today said that the rainfall in the country, as a whole, will be below normal this year especially between August to October, reports CNBC-TV18

CNBC-TV18 reports that the MET Department today said that the rainfall in the country, as a whole, will be below normal this year especially between August to October. LS Rathod, director general, IMD says that while a drought like situation cannot be declared until after September the probability is indeed high in Northwest India.


Rainfall deficient is larger than 50% in states like Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat from agriculture point of view. And in places like interior Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada the deficiency ranges between -30 to -40%. These are the areas of concern. At the moment the situation is called deficiency we will analyse draught like situation by the end of the season.
