India consumer confidence dips first time in 4 months

Consumer confidence as measured by the CNBC-TV18 Boston Analytics Consumer Confidence Index has taken a beating. The index for the month of December 2009 stood at 67.2 versus 70.7 in November.

The index has seen a dip after three months of uptick and is now at its lowest recorded level since its inception early last year.

In other measures, the Current Situation Confidence Index was down 3.1% month-on-month (MoM) to 73.3 while the Future Expectations Index was down 3% MoM to 63.8.

A decline in consumer confidence was seen in Tier II and Tier III cities in the country and the pessimistic sentiment was related to consumer spending.

The Customer Confidence Index (CCI) is defined as the degree of optimism on the state of the economy that consumers are expressing through their activities of savings and spending.
