Food price inflation surges to 17.47%

Food price inflation rose to 17.47% from 15.58% a week ago. As a result of the weak monsoon, a steep price rise was seen in commodities such as potatoes and onions that were up 94.17% and 30.89% respectively as compared to the previous year. Pulses to were up 37.83%, while the cost of vegetables were up 20.4% from last year.

 

The annual rate of inflation for the week-ended November 21, 2009 rose 12.53% as compared to 11.04%  for the previous week (ended 14/11/2009) and 11.98% during the corresponding week of the previous year.

India's annual wholesale inflation rose 1.34 percent in October from a year earlier, compared with 0.5 percent in September and 11.06 percent a year ago.
