FM to attend G-20 meet in Mexico City

Finance minister P Chidambaram will hold discussions with his counterparts from G-20 nations in Mexico City, amid developed as well as developing nations facing sluggish growth prospects.

FM to attend G-20 meet in Mexico City
Finance minister P Chidambaram will hold discussions with his counterparts from G-20 nations in Mexico City, amid developed as well as developing nations facing sluggish growth prospects.


The two-day G-20 finance ministers and Central Bank governors' Meeting beginning November 4 comes against the backdrop of persisting European debt crisis hurting growth developing economies like India and China.


After taking over the Finance portfolio in August, this would be the first time Chidambaram will participate in the G-20 Finance Ministers meet. He will reach Mexico City tomorrow and meet Mexican CEOs at a reception being hosted by Indian Ambassador.


On November 4, he along with RBI Governor D Subbarao will attend the session on Global Economy and Framework, the finance ministry said in a statement. The next day, Chidambaram along Subbarao and Economic
Affairs Secretary Arvind Mayaram will participate in the session on Financial Regulation and Financial Inclusion.


They will also attend the session on Energy, Commodities and other issues including Climate Finance and Disaster Risk and the last session on International Financial Architecture. Before reaching Mexico City, Chidambaram will visit South Korea to participate in the 3rd Korea-India Finance Ministers' Meeting which is being held in Seoul today.


South Korean Minister of Strategy and Finance Bahk Jae-wan and Chidambaram will lead the delegation of their respective countries. During this bilateral meeting, both the leaders will discuss issues of fiscal cooperation and sectoral cooperation including infrastructure cooperation among others.


G-20 is group of 20 most developed and developing  nations.
