Union Budget 2012: Finmin may levy excise on exempt items

After levying 1% excise duty on the 130 exempt items in the Budget last year, the Finance Ministry is considering extending this to the remaining 240 items.

After levying 1% excise duty on the 130 exempt items in the Budget last year, the Finance Ministry is considering extending this to the remaining 240 items.


CNBC-TV18 learns from sources that the Finance Ministry is also considering hiking the levy to 2% for the 130 items that were brought in the tax net last year.
