In a strong message to multi-system operators for hastening digitisation process, the government has revoked registration of two MSOs for failing to provide data related to steps taken for digital switchover. The move comes after the government has set October 31 as the dateline for all the four metros - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
provide data related to steps taken for digital switchover. The move comes after the government has set October 31 as the dateline for all the four metros - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
The I&B ministry, which has been constantly monitoring the implementation of Digital Addressable System (DAS), revoked the registration of Home Cable Network (P) Limited and Swami Cable Network for non-submission of data despite repeated written requests.
"...any non seriousness on the part of MSOs registered with the ministry would evoke stern action from the ministry," the government warned. As part of regular monitoring of implementation of digital addressable systems in the first phase in four metros, the ministry had sought data in three formats from MSOs.
The requisite data was essential to gauge preparations, including plan of preparations afoot by MSOs to ensure that all the consumers on their networks are covered by necessary technical infrastructure such as installation of set-top boxes. This was to ensure that no consumer is put to any hardship in the form of interruption in cable TV services due to switch-off of analog signals on the date of implementation of the Digital Addressable System (DAS).
"The non-submission of data by these MSOs is indicative of their lack of seriousness to pursue their business as per the terms and conditions of their registration," the ministry said. "The ministry has in the overall context of implementation of DAS taken a serious view of the non-compliance of directions of the ministry by these two MSOs and have therefore after due notice revoked their registration as MSOs," it added.
