Our recommendations are integral in nature, said JS Sarma, Chairman, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). He asked the Department of Telecom to consult TRAI before making any changes to its recommendations.
Telecom companies have been up in arms against the TRAI's May 12 recommendations on capping of spectrum in circles, cost for buying additional spectrum, and mergers and acquisitions. Bharti has charged TRAI of making recommendations tailor-made to benefit select operators. Vodafone echoed those views, and added that the one-time spectrum fee could put the industry in jeopardy. However, Reliance Communications and Etisalat DB welcomed the move.
Sarma said the revised 2G price formula would be ready in 2-3 months. A consultation paper on refarming of 900 Mhz will be put out soon, he promised.
