Tel Aviv, Aug. 5

Israel is keen on forging a free trade agreement with India on the back of robust economic relations between the two countries that began in 1992.

This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Trade and Labour, Mr Eliyahu Yishai, to the Minister of State for Industry, Mr Ashwani Kumar, when the latter called on him.

Talking to Business Line here, Mr Kumar said that Israel had given a proposal for an FTA with India a month ago and that "we will actively look into it".

Mr Kumar said that the Israeli Minister sought to involve Israeli companies in infrastructure development in India for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in 2010.
