Karnataka's new Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar today said his government would strive to give an honest, transparent and corruption-free government even as he set out its priority to tackle severe drought and drinking water shortage in parts of the state on a war footing.

"We will try to give an honest, transparent and corruption-free government", Shettar, flanked by new Deputy Chief Ministers K S Eshwarappa and R Ashoka, said at his maiden press conference after assuming charge as Chief
Minister.

He said his government would give top priority to tackling severe drought in many districts and rural areas and step-up relief works, adding, the government would pay greater attention on supply of drinking water in scarcity-hit areas.

"We will take everybody into confidence and our objective is to give good governance by working together", said Shettar, who spoke after the customary cabinet meeting.

He said his predecessors B S Yeddyurappa and D V Sadananda Gowda had focused on the development agenda. "I will continue in the path shown by them".

Shettar said his aim would be towards building a prosperous Karnataka, and making it a front-line and model state. His government would try to remove regional imbalances and focus on balanced development by not discriminating
against one district or another. "We will give a stable government".
