Mild tremors measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale were on Friday felt in north eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya, and West Bengal.
According to R S Dattatreya of MET Department, the epicentre of the earthquake was in Tezpur in Assam. The quake was felt at around 6.14 pm. However, there has been no report of any damage as of now. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has said that they are on alert. The Department of Seismology said that aftershocks, if any, would be mild.
