Two bogies of the Samjhauta Express caught fire near Panipat at about 11.15 pm on Sunday, reports CNBC-TV18.

The death toll has risen to 66, while over 50 are injured. The injured have been taken to the Civil Hospital. The emergency helpline numbers for enquiries are 011-23342954, 011-233410702. Initial investigations reveal that cause of fire could be explosives. Two live bombs have also been recovered from the site.

Eye witnesses say they heard an explosion before the train caught fire. The train, also called Attari Express, was travelling from Delhi to Lahore via Attari. Samjhauta Express has now left for Lahore leaving the two damaged bogies.

Foreign Secretary has informed that visas for relatives of Pakistani victims have been granted. The government is, however, unsure or the number of Pakistanis on board. A four-member Pak High commission team is leaving for Panipat, while a special cell of Delhi Police has rushed to Panipat.

Maharashtra will send an ATS team to the blast site for investigation. The Prime Minister has expressed condolences to the family members of those killed.
