PM to meet Pranab, Khurshid, Sibal: 2G order

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Law Minister Salman Khurshid and Telecommunications and HRD Minister Kapil Sibal in the next few days to discuss Supreme Court's order cancelling all 122 2G spectrum licences allotted by former telecom minister A Raja on or after January 10, 2008.

Singh will discuss the fallout of the cancellation of 2G licences by the Supreme Court and its impact on the telecom sector. Sources say the meeting will discuss the formulating of new guidelines for the sector and also seek to ensure that the policy paralysis in the government is removed.

The Prime Minister has also asked for advice from Attorney General of India Goolam E Vahanvati on the Supreme Court's order cancelling 122 2G licences. Sources told CNN-IBN that the Prime Minister wants to know whether a review petition is required to be filed in the case.

Singh also asked Vahanvati to advice whether any action needs to be taken against anyone in the Prime Minister's Office in the 2G case. The Prime Minister has also sought a clarification on whether the existing practice in allotting spectrum should continue till a new law is framed.

Sources say that a section in the Government wants the Supreme Court order, which sent shockwaves across the telecom industry, reviewed.
