Norway NRI case: Parents to meet children today

In a breakthrough in the Norway custody row involving Indian couple Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya and their children, an agreement has been reached with the Norwegian child welfare services to allow the couple to meet their children on Friday.

In what is being seen as a patch-up between the couple and the Norwegian authorities, the latter have agreed to give the children's custody to their uncle, but with the condition that the parents must stay back in Norway and visit India just twice or thrice a year.

Authorities want to ensure that there is no subsequent contact between the parents and their children. The Indian couple have 'informally' agreed to the conditions saying that their visa renewal process is on and promised they would not be settling back in India.

Norwegian Child Welfare Services had placed the couple's two children - 3-year-old Abhigyan and 1-year-old Aishwarya - under foster care in May last year, alleging abuse and negligence.

The couple will be seeing its kids for the first time in 3 months on Friday.

The duo on Friday thanked CNN-IBN during an interview for its coverage of the issue. "Thank you for helping us," said Anurup. The couple added that they were elated at the opportunity to meet their children.
