The stock market is booming and more young people are flocking to it. Cashing in on this interest is the Mumbai University, which plans to launch a B.Com degree in Financial Markets .

Mumbai University plans to introduce a three-year B.Com degree course in Financial Markets. The proposal, if approved, will be applicable from the current academic session. The course will emphasise practical interaction. Students will interact with stockbrokers, mutual-fund agencies and carry out studies in the financial industry.

Vijay Khole , Vice-Chancellor , Mumbai University , says, "The commerce faculty is very vibrant in this industry - the economy is booming and several sectors in commercial transactions are increasing and emerging - we need to provide trained professionals/manpower because the industry demands it. Therefore, we decided to provide meaningful programmes."

Universities abroad like the London School of Economics , New York University and Cornell University already run specialised courses on financial markets or their equivalent. Hence, the introduction of this course will also open up vast opportunities for Indian students going abroad.
