India's UID project may get Rs 400 cr World Bank funding

India's ambitious Unique Identification Card (UID) project is likely to get Rs 400 crore World Bank funding, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting sources. The World Bank Chief met Infosys-co founder and government appointed Chairman of the UID project, Nandan Nilekani on December 4, 2009.

Sources also suggest that the project would get tech and data-base support from international government bodies as well as hardware assistance and software partnerships.

The Unique Identification Card project will ensure that every Indian will have a unique smart card which will act as their identification proof. The card will include details like Name, sex, address, marital status, photo, identification mark and finger biometrics of every Indian.
