Cotton production, consumption seen rising next season

Chennai, May 31

A nascent recovery in activities of spinning mills in the Indian subcontinent has led to consumption projection of cotton being raised. At the same time, cotton production in the country is likely to increase next season starting October.

According to forecast by Cotlook, the recovery is set to lead to a drawdown in global raw cotton stocks.

Cotlook said in its cotton outlook that consumption in India is likely to go up this season that ends in September and the next season. It also said consumption was set to go up in Pakistan this season.

The recovery comes on the heels of global consumption dropping sharply during the last quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of this year.
