AP, Karnataka tobacco farmers told to regulate production
Tobacco farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka should stick to the crop size fixed by the board and not grow surplus, even though they have been getting record prices for the past two seasons, according to Mr J. Suresh Babu, Chairman of the Tobacco Board.
Mr P. Dayachari, Former Chairman of the Tobacco Board, who launched the new portal ( www.tobaccoboard.com ), said his dream of getting record prices for tobacco had been realised during the tenure of his successor. Later, he presented awards to the best growers of tobacco in different regions of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The portal would be activated in 20 days.
Dr Y. Sivaji, President of the AP Virginia Tobacco Growers' Association, also urged the farmers to regulate the crop size in accordance with the directive of the board to take advantage of the current boom period in international market.
