Days before the next change sheet in the 2G case is due, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has rejected crucial Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and law ministry reports saying that their views are unsolicited.

CNBC-TV18's Malvika Jain reports that the CBI has told the 2G trail court that the law ministry's report defining the term 'associated' is unsolicited. The report implies that Reliance Communications and Swan as well as Loop and Essar are not associated.

The bureau also points out that the covering letter of TRAI report that came in on August 28 is unsolicited and contradicts the expert committee's view. The expert panel had pegged the 4.4 MHz value at Rs 5,500-9,500 crore. CBI told the court that it only asked TRAI to estimate actual price of the spectrum. The CBI has thus written to the telecom authority highlighting contradictions and would place only the report and not the cover letter in front of the court.
