The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is likely to introduce its largest IT contract worth Rs 40,000 crore, reports CNBC-TV18's Kritika Saxena quoting sources.

Here is the verbatim transcript of Kritikas's comments. Also watch the accompanying video.

This is one of the largest deals put forth by the UIDAI. The Rs 40000 crore contract will be divided in five to seven years, however, the tenure could be extended upto 10 years.

Besides, the contract will be divided further into seven to eight contracts. This deal will provide software services for the integration of the UID project, which is already in the process of being rolled out. As far as the bidders are concerned, around 14 IT vendors have been shortlisted.

Except Accenture, front liners like Infosys , HCL , Wipro don't figure in the list. Midcap companies like Mahindra Satyam , MindTree , Geodesic , Mastek , CMC , Persistent Systems , Infinite Computer Solutions are among the winners. IBM is also eying the deal, but they haven't been confirmed yet.

Apart from that, the list of unlisted players comprises of Accel Frontline, Vayam Technologies, Yash Technologies among others. This confirms that the process of giving out contracts will start in the next one month. The UIDAI replied to our queries, saying that they will provide all the details of the IT vendors on their website only after the process is completed. This ensures some good news for the IT players, especially, the midcap IT pack.
